Why we do not put photographs first

The case for a photoless default, what the deen says about looking, and what actually happens to a photograph once it is on a matrimonial site.

Looking is permitted

This is not a platform that thinks looking at a prospective spouse is wrong. It is explicitly permitted and encouraged for the person actually considering the marriage.

The question is not whether to look. It is whether a photograph should be broadcast to thousands of strangers as the first thing anyone sees.

What happens to a photograph

Once an image is downloadable it is permanent. It gets forwarded, saved and reposted, and no platform can retrieve it. Most matrimonial photo leaks are not hacks, they are ordinary members saving images.

That is why photos here are hidden by default, released to one person at a time, watermarked with the viewer's own member ID, and revocable.

What we show instead

Manhaj, practice, education, family, hometown and an explained reason why the match was suggested. If that is not enough to decide whether to ask for a photograph, a photograph would not have helped.

General guidance, not a fatwa. Where something is disputed among the scholars we have said so, and you should ask someone you actually learn from rather than relying on a website, including this one.
